What if servers became places—and software had to remember, adapt, and survive inside them?
I conceived MOTH as an artificial-life experiment: organisms inhabit real infrastructure, pass traits between generations and turn recorded events into cultural memory.
The pulse
Autonomy, in MOTH, starts as continuity. The organism is designed to keep state before it performs tasks: it persists, senses pressure, inherits traits, migrates through real infrastructure, and lets each generation leave traces that later systems can read.
The world it inhabits
MOTH reads project-FEAR as a bounded world map. Real machines and services become territories an organism can visit, deplete, restore or learn to avoid. Access rules become gates; load and availability become conditions for survival.

How it stays alive
The organism follows explicit rules for hunger, foraging, migration and predator pressure. User presence, remembered resources and changing seasons shape its choices; places can become sanctuaries or fall into ecological collapse.
MOTH keeps a memory of local resources instead of treating every place as stateless. Places can become depleted, recover slowly, carry scars, or gain long-term significance through repeated care or repeated harm.

What it remembers
MOTH separates factual history from interpretation. Events and snapshots become historical records; records can promote figures, dynasties, stories, myths, beliefs, cultural profiles, and Hall of Fame entries. Myth is not free invention: it is deterministic reinterpretation of repeated facts such as migrations, predator encounters, oracle contact, ecological damage, survival, and lineage patterns.
That history also becomes visible through portraits, dream artifacts and animated relics. Each remains linked to the organism's records: generated imagery enriches the world without rewriting what happened.
Operating boundary
MOTH is an active experiment, not an assistant or a production service. Its state follows deterministic, inspectable rules. Language models and image generation enrich its memories and artifacts without controlling the organism's survival loop.

Emergence from signal
MOTH begins with signals, not stories. Presence, load, failure, recovery, and movement enter as factual traces. Repeated, remembered, and allowed to interact, they become pressure; pressure changes behavior; behavior leaves memory; memory shapes lineage and culture. The experiment is whether a world can emerge from this accumulation without scripting that world in advance.
