AT THE INTERSECTION OF DISCIPLINESPORTFOLIO — SELECTED EXPLORATIONS

Code
comes alive.

I explore what happens when code meets matter, the senses, and a little of the unexpected.

01 / SELECTED WORKCONCEPT PROTOTYPE EXPERIENCE

It starts with “what if…”

Objects you can touch.
Worlds that evolve.
Interfaces that get out of the way.

01 / IMAGE BECOMES SOUND

mmento-1

What does
a memory sound like?

A camera-like object. A captured moment. A song that could only come from here.

Explore the object PHYSICAL COMPUTING / AI / MUSIC
The mmento-1 prototype, with its screen, exposed electronics and colourful enclosure.
INTERACTIVE OBJECT / 001PROTOTYPE STUDY
DRAG TO TURNAN INTERPRETATION OF THE PROTOTYPE

A moment, held in your hand.

Press the shutter. The object captures an image as the starting point for a new piece of music.

02 / TASTE AS AN INTERFACE

Pucclab

One more shot.
One new question.

A hands-on espresso lab. Gesture, measurement and taste become a loop you can keep refining.

Explore the object ESP32 / INTERACTION / EXPERIMENTATION
Pucclab's white physical controller, e-paper display and yellow dial.

Begin with a small decision.

A physical dial and display put the next coffee experiment within reach, right beside the machine.

03 / ANOTHER FORM OF LIFE

MOTH

A system with
a life of its own.

Organisms inhabit infrastructure, migrate and leave traces. An artificial-life experiment with a memory.

Enter the ecosystem ARTIFICIAL LIFE / GENERATIVE SYSTEMS
Organisms and animated relics from the MOTH experiment.

MOVE CLOSER. LEAVE A TRACE.INSPIRED BY MOTH

Small rules. Unexpected patterns.

A browser study of collective behaviour. Explore attraction, movement and connection in this imagined ecology.

04 / GESTURE BECOMES MATTER

SPrAyCE

A movement.
A mark in space.

Drawing in mid-air with a spray-like gesture. Research at MIT Media Lab into a more physical way to create.

The hand thinks differently.

Hold and move to spray a trace. Release it, then turn off spraying to explore the particles suspended in space. A screen-based study of the original spatial prototype.

02 / INSIDE THE LAB PERSONAL SYSTEM · ALWAYS EVOLVING
INFRASTRUCTURE BECOMES AN INTERFACE.

SynapseA small world.
A lot of connections.

From voice to models, from intentions to tools. I design, build and run a local AI system where every machine has a part to play.

One intention. The right path.

Synapse connects interfaces, models and tools. Orchestration turns a request into a route through the system’s different capabilities.

03 / OTHER PLAYGROUNDSSEE · LISTEN · FEEL

A shift in perception.

The same reality.
A different way to read it.

06 / COLOR SEQUENCER

Listen to
the colors.

An image becomes a score. Color translates into pitch, duration and intensity.

04 / THE MIND BEHIND THE EXPERIMENTSRAPHAEL KIM

Thinking with my hands.
Building to understand.

I’m Raphael. I move between interaction design, software and electronics. What draws me in: the moment technology becomes something you can touch, hear or feel.

From physical interaction research at MIT Media Lab to prototypes at SAP and voice experiences at Snips / Sonos, I connect the idea, the gesture and the system that makes them possible.

DIFFERENT CONTEXTS. THE SAME CURIOSITY.
